“Promoting  Sustainable Urban Mobility: A UN-Habitat Perspective”

To be held in Warsaw on 18 November 2013

The organizers of this workshop are using the opportunity created by the presence in Warsaw of participants of the COP19 Conference*) to disseminate information, and facilitate discussion, about approaches to urban transport policies being promoted by international organisations and by the leading think tanks in this field. The speakers will concentrate on the idea of sustainable urban mobility, with particular emphasis on challenges of the implementation of innovative approaches, and on the transferability of lessons learned. Discussions will also be based on the Global Report on Human Settlements 2013: Planning and Design for Sustainable Urban Mobility, recently published by UN-Habitat. The event will serve to take forward the EU supported “SOLUTIONS” initiative, that looks at innovation in urban transport and their transferability in different country contexts.

Speakers: The contributors will include Andre Dzikus, Coordinator of Urban Basic Services Branch, UN-HABITAT, Nairobi, as well as key Urban Mobility experts from the leading collaborating organizations including, among others, ITDP - Institute for Transportation and Development Policy; EMBARQ - Centre for Sustainable Transport of the World Resources Institute; the Wuppertal Institute and SLoCaT  - Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport.". In addition, Wojciech Suchorzewski, Warsaw University of Technology, will briefly inform on initiatives in sustainable urban mobility planning carried out within the European Union and in neighbouring transitional countries.

Participants: Participants of COP19 Conference, Polish professionals from public and private sector, researchers, and planners.  Participation is free after registration  but the number of participants is limited.
